Multiple Sclerosis is not an Easy Disease

Multiple Sclerosis is not an Easy Disease

Happy Friday. I feel like this week went super fast. I didn’t do much. I fell again this week. This marks the fourth fall in 3 weeks. I am having trouble with transferring from my bed to my wheelchair or wheelchair to my bed. Most other the falls have happened with aides that were new to me. They either didn’t have good enough English to understand what I was saying or they really couldn’t do what I needed. However, the…

Weekend changes

Weekend changes

The switch with the new aide actually went pretty flawlessly. My current aide actually had a lot to do with that. She really took the time to show the new aide around. She didn’t have to do that. It wasn’t an aide from her agency. It was an aide that was replacing her. I think I was more impressed with her this week than I have been the entire time she’s been with me. I actually was a little sad…

Taking a new aide

Taking a new aide

I have to admit I am wrong this while I am doing my bionic gym. It is very difficult to do this while you are shaking. Forgive me In advance for grammar and spelling errors more than my usual. I know last week I told you about the wonderful aide I had that covered for my full time aide on vacation. https://multipleexperiences.org/2021/12/10/the-replacement-aid/. It turns out on Monday, my full time aide said that she will be going to 3 days…

The replacement aid

The replacement aid

I’m doing better with the spasticity. I was never a person who thought Baclofen really did anything. I’ve taken 10mg a day, as preventative, for as long as I can remember. Well increasing it to 20mg twice a day has definitely did something. The constant dull ache I’ve had in my lower back has almost completely subsided. I am able to bend my legs to get up more often than not now. I’m not cured but doing much better. I…

My week finding agencies

My week finding agencies

Well after my blog on Wednesday, I figured I better lighten things up a little. I just don’t know if I have anything light to talk about. It’s not that anything is necessarily bad but it isn’t that great either. I had terrible spasticity this week. My legs have been super stiff. It has made getting up out of my chair and bed difficult. It is very difficult to move when one or both of your legs don’t want to…

Nursing aide hours

Nursing aide hours

I had my lovely sister over this weekend. We were discussing the possible change in my nursing aide hours. This is all coming from the incident when I fell and couldn’t get up. https://multipleexperiences.org/2021/08/27/i-pressed-the-med-alert-button/. After this unfortunate issue, my mom and step dad decided I needed more hours of care. I actually had an evaluation with my insurance a few days later by lucky coincidence. We made a request to change my nursing aide hours from 8 hours Monday-Friday to…

A better mood shift

A better mood shift

Mood has improved from last week, I am happy to say. However I might have another tough week coming up. My daughter is away and my aide is on vacation. . I chose not to replace the aide anyway because I really hate having new people in the house. They don’t know where anything is, they are usually scared of the dogs and I have to make idle chit chat that can be exhausting. It puts too much stress on…

Mid week review

Mid week review

Well the major snowstorm that is going to pound the northeast is going to leave significantly less on part of Long Island. I’m located in that part. We should only see 3-5 inches by the end. We will get the sleet mixed with rain making for a more snowy mess than a beautiful snowy blanket. Oh well. I still haven’t had my aide so it’s been just me holding my own. I’m doing ok. I of course haven’t been able…

Happy Monday Morning

Happy Monday Morning

Happy Monday morning. Slightly dreary here with light rain and cloudy skies but that’s ok, I’m not outside. I heard we may be having our first snowstorm this week. I’m not sure what the current predictions are but I do love the snow. Granted I become even more trapped in my home when snow falls because wheelchairs don’t like snow piles or sheets of ice. I don’t even mind because I’m mostly home anyway and everything delivers. I love the…

Nobody likes change

Nobody likes change

After three years, my aid is moving on. She’s changing her hours to work 12 hour shifts each day during the weekend. This way she can make relatively the same hours in less days and be home with her son. With all the uncertainty of the schools new operating hours, who could blame her. I witnessed firsthand what it was like when she had a homeschool her son. It was hard for every parent but exceptionally hard for someone…
