MS, exercising and me

MS, exercising and me

I’m Back to pushing my body. Not that this is something new with me. This is what I’ve always done. I have a MS, I know that, but I push it to the limit. Sunday and today I did a 55 minute Zumba class. I haven’t done the longest class in I would say almost a year and a half. I used to only work out for 45 minutes or more. Things started to change actually when I got my puppy Zoey. I didn’t have enough time because I had to keep an eye on her. Not easy to keep an eye on a puppy and exercise at the same time. Next came the shoulder tendinitis which put me out of exercising for a total of six months. I’ve been slowly working my way back up. I’m now back to working out five days a week and I’m now I’m adding in the longer work outs.

You might think I’m crazy, but I do this when I know I don’t have anywhere to be after. I have time to relax and let my body come back to itself. I made that decision 20 years ago that I MS can’t make the decisions. Unfortunately it took me another 10 years to start working out. Since I can’t stand for the majority of the time my workouts are mostly in a chair, so we’re not talking about high intensity. I do get a sweat on. I’ve been told by my doctors the reason I’m still walking is because I was working out for as long as I was. I kept my body moving and strong even though I felt like at times if it’s giving out on me, it was still benefiting.

So now I’m going to sit here for the next 45 minutes to an hour doing nothing hoping my body recovers. Then I can get on with the rest of my day. If it doesn’t, I’m home most of the day anyway I can get by. I’d rather push myself to the limit every day while I still can.
