Things that go bump in the night

Things that go bump in the night

I had this post written title one other time. I wrote it about being convinced I heard Boomer, my English Bulldog, after he passed away. I realize now that the things that go bump in the night is usually me.

The biggest obstacle I’ve had, since I moved in the condo, is I sleep on the other side of the bed then I use to for the last 25 years. I always slept on the left side which, for all those years, was the side closest to the bathroom. In this condo, the bathroom is on my right. It would be completely illogical for me to sleep on the left walk around my bed every time I have to go the bathroom. The problem is, of course there’s always a problem, my right side leg is the more difficult leg for picking up. With my MS my body has made all the adaptive adjustments to maneuver when I’m trying to get out of bed on the left side. Not so much the case on the right side. I’ve had many issues getting out of the bed. I’ve had to slid down off the bed because it was just the easiest way for me to get out. I swear I must be a comedy show how else could you get through this stuff. Anyway my walker is always right next to me so I always have something to help me get up.

Once I stand it’s a quick 5 step walk to the bathroom. Last night, I walked four and 1/2 steps and I don’t know what happened but down I went, right on my back. Thankfully my room is very big and there was absolutely nothing behind me so my body hit nothing. If I had hit my dresser going down that would’ve hurt a lot.

I have had very few falls in this condo in relation to where I fell all the time in the apartment. I think part of the reason is because my walker goes with me everywhere. Especially my room. That was always one of my danger points. I also have less obstacles on the floor because everything has been streamlined here. I know I’ve talked about this before in other blogs, but I have to admit downsizing and having things more scarce in a place has really made a huge difference. Wishing everyone a happy Thursday. The sun is finally shining in New York.
