I’m not losing weight because I have MS

This is what the doctor firmly believes. I’ve had to slow down because the MS has disabled me and I physically can’t do much. Definitely not what I wanted to hear. However I can’t say that it’s definitely a false thought. He looked at my records over the past two years and I’ve gained a total of 6 pounds. Again you might think oh my God big deal you gained 6 pounds in two years, What’s the big deal? The big deal is I’ve been overweight my whole life. I finally took off over 60 pounds and kept it off for over eight years. That’s the big deal. Now slowly weight is creeping up on me and I can’t stop it. The big deal is I have multiple sclerosis and exercise is an issue. The big deal is I usually watch everything that goes in my mouth. The big deal is when I stop doing it, I stopped watching it is when frustration hits. Right now, frustration has been hitting.

My primary doctor is been my doctor for almost 20 years. He’s also known me when my MS wasn’t very bad and he also has known me when I was very very overweight. He feels it was really over the last three years that the last attack happened and it’s been that I started slowing down because I’ve become more disabled. I also now started back in June having a full-time aid that helps me do a lot of things slowing down my activity even more. Then of course adding in the tendinitis that stop me from working out in the morning. That little bit in the chair that I always felt did nothing was maybe really doing something. Of course my arguments about that was I wasn’t measuring my food, tracking what I eat, weighing in each week and being perfect, like I’ve been on weight watchers. I ate whatever I wanted whenever I wanted. I didn’t have to track like I had to now. I just thought when I started tracking, and portioning what I ate, it would be a no-brainer for losing weight. I’m not the only person that doesn’t exercise. Many people don’t exercise and still lose weight, right?

Anyway, he took more blood. He definitely agreed it is not my thyroid. I definitely don’t have Cushing disease. He’s going to call me with the results, but I’m pretty sure they’re going to show nothing. Once again when my body kind of catches up from moving and unpacking, I’m going to go into the pool in my condo. Now that the stress is off and hopefully I could start moving around in the pool, we’ll just have to see what happens.

  1. I always worked out, lifted weights, serious cardio… then came ms. I couldn’t lose weight. A nutritionist told me it’s 80% what you eat… started losing then turned 50 and everything changed. After a lot of research read that you have to change your body from burning sugar for fuel to burning fat. To do this, intermittent fasting. I can’t fast… so no snacking after dinner, then sleep, when get up it’s already a 12 hour fast (7pm – 7am). I have oj and coffee and delay my first meal until 11:30 ish (I usually sleep to 9ish) … always same lunch… 1 egg omelette with 2 slices swiss cheese (regular, not no fat… fat is ok it’s the sugar you’re avoiding)and 2 slices low sodium ham. then I eat a regular dinner. my research said you will be hungry until your body switches to burning fat for fuel… amazingly this is true…no desire to snack. I am losing… even that extra “roll” above stomach. I’ve snacked a lot through the holidays… cookies, chocolate… but have kept to my omelette and dinner routine and have only gained an acceptable amount. email me if you want to chat… I can’t say enough!

    1. Sounds like the Keto diet, is that true? I’ve heard of a few different diets with MS. I was even vegan for almost a year and still eat mostly vegan.

        1. I never eat breakfast. My first meal I’d usually around 12 but I’m a night eater. That’s my downfall although I turn to frozen grapes as my snack of choice now

      1. I’m replying again because I didn’t check off to get notified.

I read mercola.com daily and he’s into fasting.
