Not one of my finer moments

Not one of my finer moments

Well I can definitively say that chip on my shoulder I work so hard to get rid of has not disappeared. I was having dinner last night with a friend and her son. My daughter has been friends with him since kindergarten. They have a brother and sister type of relationship and his mom and I have spent so many Friday and Saturday nights out together that we have so many memories to laugh about. Anyway, I drove my daughter and I to the restaurant. The parking lot was one of those one way parking lane otherwise you were going to be in at the wrong angle to park. However, when I went to go down the first lane, which has the handicapped parking, there was a truck blocking the lane. I couldn’t get through. I had to go around which meant I was coming down the wrong way into the parking area. People don’t like that BUT I CANT WALK. This one car was pulling out and he was giving me a total look of disgust that he had to pass me on this one lane area. Didn’t he see the truck? Didn’t matter all the handicap spots were taken anyway. His spot was a few places down from handicap. I’ll take his. I knew I had to maneuver into the spot and as I was doing so a group of 3 women started making gestures and yelling something I couldn’t hear with my windows closed. I did see one say it’s one way idiot, I read lips. That’s when I rolled down my window. “F-you I’m handicap and this van is blocking the lane.” I know one women said well that spot isn’t handicap and the other women said don’t hit my car. This infuriated me even more, “no it’s not handicap, thank you genius, but this spot at least is closer than other spots” in my tirade I added “I’ve learned how to drive and park and avoid hitting cars.” None if it mattered because my darling daughter had now leaned over to scream out the window “F-you, Merrick bitches we aren’t going to hit you F-ing Lexus so F-off you f-ing rich bitches. ” Now I just bowed my head as they said nice language from a young girl. Couldn’t argue with that statement. I looked at my daughter and just shook my head. I was completely wrong for my reaction I didn’t even have words for her reaction. Definitely not one of my finer moments. Not very Zen like or Course in Miracles. Certainly not one for the proudest mommy awards.

  1. People are just jerks sometimes. There was one time when I first got my handicap parking tag a woman and her son were walking past me and glared at me with a look of disgust. I was so upset I went into the store in tears. People can be so mean! I know it wasn’t great language but I think I want your daughter with me when I go out. She speaks her mind!

  3. Hey, we all have those days we’re not so proud of. I just got upset with a tech support guy yesterday over something that was entirely my fault (though I didn’t realize it at the time). What can you do but just shake it off and move on….
