NYS Medical marijuana card

NYS Medical marijuana card

Got to love New York State. We legalized medical marijuana but big brother is watching you. My doctor gave me the certification to apply for a card. I had to submit my information to the department of health, with the certification and my drivers license. After my application is reviewed, my card will be mailed to me. I don’t even know where to get the “stuff”. I think they have a dispensary somewhere about 20+ miles from me but I’m not sure. Unlike California where you can get different items, strains, foods or candies, NYS it’s only pills or oil.

The Commissioner must approve any form of medical marijuana. Approved forms include liquids and oil for vaporization or administration via inhaler as well as capsules to take orally. Under the law, smoking is not permitted and the regulations prohibit edibles.-NYS Department of Health

Ive used the illegal stuff for years. It is the only thing that has helped with spasticity. I get it in my back out of nowhere and it lasts for days. It feels like someone twisted my nerves like spaghetti on a fork. Nothing relieves the pain. I’ve tried baclofen and Neurontin for it in the past neither had success. I used to also get it while driving. If I was in traffic, that back and forth motion from the brake and gas would cause spasms in my legs. Then I’d have shooting pains. The only thing that helped was marijuana. So I illegally used it. Since I stopped working, I’m never in traffic anymore. I don’t drive much. Therefore my leg spasms have ceased almost completely. The spasticity in my back was good, until I got the shoulder tendinitis.  Then it’s started to show up again. It was for that reason I decided it was time to get the legal marijuana card.

To be eligible in NYS:

You are potentially eligible for medical marijuana if you have been diagnosed with one or more of the following severe debilitating or life threatening conditions: cancer, HIV infection or AIDS, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury with spasticity, epilepsy, inflammatory bowel disease, neuropathy, Huntington’s disease or chronic pain (as defined by 10 NYCRR §1004.2(a)(8)(xi)). The severe debilitating or life threatening condition must also be accompanied by one or more of the following associated or complicating conditions: cachexia or wasting syndrome, severe or chronic pain, severe nausea, seizures, or severe or persistent muscle spasms. -NYS Department of Health

However The Commissioner can add and amend to this list.

Ive always been an advocate of medical marijuana. Multiple Sclerosis has always been on the list as being eligible to receive the card I’ve just been lazy. Ive either had my illegal version or I didn’t need it. Well unfortunately now that my back spasticity has been more prevalent, I need it. Hopefully I did it right. I’m currently in a pending review status. Then NYS will officially know I’m on drugs, lovely.
