Goodbye to my childhood friends

Goodbye to my childhood friends

Meet a portion of an obsession I have had since I’ve been a kid.  They are humpty dumpties by plakie or close knock offs. This batch is directly across from my bed and the first thing I see when I wake up. Over to the side which isn’t shown is another case which is all the ones I’ve had growing up and my first eBay acquires. My rarer editions so to say. These dolls were my teddy bears and barbies.  This is what I liked growing up. I’m almost 45 years old and I admit I still sleep with them.  I have a few in the bed but one at a time I sleep with.  It’s pathetic I know but they make me smile.  All those faces put a smile on my face.  However in my de-clutter phase and I need money phase, I’m thinking of selling them. I have a lot and I’m not selling all of them but maybe my sister is right and maybe it’s time. There are few things in my life these days that just bring me pure joy but if I compare these to my dogs, not much to compare too.  I guess I’m going to start slow and see how it goes. It’s an attachment to an inanimate object which my course in miracles teaches attachments to people and things isn’t right so I guess I’m going to live what I preach. It’s time to say goodbye to some of my attachments because my happiness isn’t found there.

  1. I have collected stuffed animals for years and learned recently that as many as a third of women in the U.S. keep at least one on their bed. They are a quiet, soft, colorful, innocuous comfort. I passed along quite a few this year, ones that held no special significance. I will probably pass along more. I no longer let other people’s judgments pressure me in certain areas of my life. I am learning (slowly and at a late stage) how to enjoy my freedom in Christ. I thinks your collection is amazing. I do understand the “owning” but “not being owned” issue.

    1. I identified 10 I’d be willing to part with, doesn’t make a dent and I too decided I don’t care. Love me for me not parts of me.

      1. 10 is a good round number. One of my daughters thought that I had too many stuffed animals. That ticked my son off. He thought she was being controlling so he went out and bought me another one – a beautiful little elephant wearing a blanket.

    2. Hi, I love your collection of Humpty’s. I am 50 years old and have had one since I was a baby. Are you going to be parting with any ? I would be interested in buying a few. Thank you.

      1. Hi, Janie, check with YouTwoHearts. The original post was hers as are the Humpty’s. (They are adorable.)

      2. I sold my knock offs but none of my originals at this point. I don’t know if I’m ready to part with them…silly since I have so many. I know there is one on eBay.
